Anthropology has the ability to capsize accustomed knowledge to question general assumptions and to explain the extraordinary. Anthropology explores the culture, evolution, behavior, beliefs and social organization of peoples around the globe in prehistoric, historic, and contemporary life world. Department of Anthropology of Comilla University, Cumilla, Bangladesh is committed to a holistic approach for exploring what it means to be human, including human social and cultural experience, human-environment interactions, linguistic expression, and evolutionary processes from the ancient past to the present. We combine innovative research in the unfolding contemporary world with maintenance of the core anthropological traditions: critical engagement with social theory.

Our theoretical interests are varied and eclectic, extending from classical subjects and transforms to the more contemporary critical reformation of anthropological knowledge. Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs and classes in many areas of anthropology  We encourage critical thinking, effective writing, and development of practical skills. Our program provides opportunities for students to conduct hands-on research and study a wide range of topics through coursework, field orientations, and research projects with faculty and centers across the nation.

Collectively, the members of the Department believe in a synergistic approach connecting our research, teaching, and service. We have nine full-time faculty whose diverse research interests range from social systems, healthcare, migration, community development, political anthropology, gender and identity, indigenous knowledge, environmental justice/rights and so on. Graduate students in our program receive courses in core areas of theory, research methods and applied field.

Student involvement is one of our most important goals and we pride ourselves on the cherished relationship between our faculty and students throughout the academic extent. Having an associate organization, Anthropology Society we offer co-curricular activities to our students which enlivens their minds along with their academic activities. It helps students to flourish their inner qualities apart from their academic excellence. The Department also arranges national and international seminar and conference on diverse issues of Anthropology to enrich our way of experiencing anthropology more critically and practically.
