The department of Economics, Comilla University, started its operation in 2007. It is one of the seven departments with which the University inaugurated its Academic Program. It started its journey with 4 year program of Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) Honours in the academic session 2006-2007 and later launched Master of Social Science (MSS) in Economics program in the academic session 2010- 2011. The department is adjoining to offer MPhil and PhD from academic session 2019-2020.

The department has an enrollment limit to 60 students in each academic year. More than 400 students have so far been graduated from this department and working in different sectors like public service commission, educational institutions, research organizations, banks & financial institutions, business enterprises, etc.

The department has 17 faculty members and 2 non-academic staffs. Number of enrolling students in undergraduate and graduate level is about 350. The academic decisions are taken by the Academic Committee comprised of all faculty members of the department. The decisions are duly endorsed and approved by the Academic Council and Syndicate of the University.

The Department has formed a student club named ‘Economics Club’ in 2011 to conduct extra and co-curricular activities.
