It is my pleasure to welcome you at the Department of English, Comilla University.

Ours is an engaging and stimulating department, a congenial and accessible place to study and to enjoy new ideas, new knowledge as well as to be competent in various required professional skills . The teachers along with the students explore various dimensions of English language and literature here in a very effective and invigorating way. The foundation of the department dates back to the foundation of the university in 2006 and the formal schooling starts in the next year with forty students along with two faculty members. At present, we take our pride on having fourteen faculty members and more than 350 students. The department also takes its privilege of having diversity and vitality of teaching English language and literature from different perspectives. Our faculty have varied research and teaching interests ranging from literature to linguistics, applied linigustics to ELT, folklore to film, creative writing and literary translations to cultural studies.

At present, the Department offers program of study both at undergraduate and graduate levels. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English is a panoramic program of four years (8 semesters) giving students the scope of widening their knowledge of the basics and fundamentals of English language and literature that would be very much instrumental for them in their next graduate level of study of MA and consequently in theiir upcoming carrer with positive intellectual diversity and proper professionalism. Students are also given the opportunity to explore courses like Bangla Literature, Anthropology, Western Ideas, and Basics of Computer.

At graduate level we offer a One year (2 semesters) Master of Arts in English program. As it is an advanced level of study, the program allows our students to concentrate deeply on literature, language, linguistics, cultural studies etc. through their coursework and research. We also offer a two year MA in English (Evening) Programme tailored basically for the professionals. All our programs equip our students with every requirements of their bright career and life as well. Our aim is to produce cosmopolitan citizens befitting in every respect. Our students go for jobs like teaching, Bangladesh Civil Service and other govt. sector jobs, banking, journalism, creative writing etc.

We have a very congenial teaching learning atmosphere. The teachers are friendly,  accommodating and maintains the standard of the discipline wonderfully. We also have a very strong foundation for running the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the department. And to manage all these, we have Liberal Minds- a cultural wing of the department. A  committee of the teachers along with some sub committees of the students are appointed for maintaing the club. Getting admitted in the department , a student inevitably becomes a member of the wing.
